Really hitting the stereotypes hard here, huh?
I have a couple meetings in about 15 minutes, so the rest will have to wait an hour or so. It's three bloody reincarnation trips into Narnia though, two of which are video games, so I am not enthusiastic.
Impressions:
I dunno. I expected a lot more, which, sure, for me is rare, but every important moment of this episode was already in the promos, so it's pretty deflating. Plus, the production here is only maybe barely on the better side of mediocre. The writing was easily the strongest part, as it goes through a whole genuine contained little arc for her. Trying despite nobody caring about her, screwing up, falling to pieces, getting back up and trying again. A classic hero's journey that's classic for a reason. The only really iffy part was the idiot kid attempting to run into a burning building. Could've just had him trying to save a nearby dog or something instead and still more than gotten the point across.
It was largely fine, I suppose, but I wanted a lot more. More emphasis on the hero-ing, less on the various wacky blondes goofing about, although the drunk Russian mentor is largely fine. Less so for the sinister space masked lady who brought the episode to a screeching halt with her dumb "something's gonna happen soon" nonsense. Yeah, it's the first episode. I think that goes without saying. Thankfully, they spent very little time focused on the exceedingly dumb premise that giving every country a super-power would somehow result in world peace. The more we shove that little bit into the background and forget about it, the better.
