Bullbuster #01 — The Leg Debate

October 4th, 2023

Does this idiot know… uh… literally anything about this job?

Impressions:

Well, it's not another cheat power reincarnation thing. That counts for something, right? Well, we can consider any good will squandered when it shut things down in the middle for about five minutes to not just do paperwork, but repeatedly explain that paperwork has to be done. If this was meant to be a gag, it long past ran its course, but I doubt it was. This is meant to be realistic. Which is why we have a super-genius teenager with his self-built artisanal billion dollar giant moderately large mech joining a monster fighting company with zero training, zero research on monsters, zero research on the area, but boy, is he a fan of himself and his mech. His mech that has a system crash the first time it tries to do anything. He really is the Elon Musk of his world.

Maybe I would also feel a little more charitable towards it if the crisis/climax of the episode wasn't so damn stupid. "Robots on two legs suck!" -gets knocked over- "No, robots on two legs are great!" -one shots monster- That's really what we're going with here as what makes his robot unique and special? Not all the super tech you spent a few minutes going over and explaining? Really seemed like it was going to be fancy city boy with all his gadgets rides in and learns about how the real monster world works, but nope. Two legs vs treads is meant to be the takeaway here. I mean, really? Really?
