Berserk Gluttony #04 — Sad Moms in Shawls

October 22nd, 2023

Why does she look like she's 17 and in perfect health?

Dog Signal aired like 8 hours ago, and fitting for an NHK 'educational' show, nobody wants anything to do with it. And honestly, from what I glanced at of the source manga? I'm completely fine with just consigning it to total oblivion, sight unseen.

Impressions:

A second date episode to really crank up the non-tragedy of the boring-ass heroine being sent away may be where I throw in the towel. It's just boring as hell, with only the slightest movement on the story front alone. Character development, presentation, anything new at all… all left to stagnate after just a couple episodes. Then it ends by jumping straight to confronting one of his bullies in his silly cosplay, but I don't even know why people are complaining that someone else is eradicating the local monsters. Because he's dressed 'weird' using a mask he bought off the street?

It's not like he's been going on a campaign of vigilante justice against the slavers or sociopaths of the city. That would have been far more interesting than the endlessly spawning random monsters each week and had the opportunity for some actual trials and tribulations, not to mention put him in the crosshairs of the sociopaths. No. Instead we meet the sick mom who fusses over them like they're kindergarteneners. Do you like her like her? Oh, how cute and sick and tragic we all are. I'll probably glance at next week's episode just to see if this confrontation even tries to do anything interesting, but my hopes at this point are very, very low.
