Berserk Gluttony #02 — Hungry Hungry Hobgoblins

Why not turn in the ears and leave a bag of money?

Semi-Impressions:

I'm not exactly gripped by any of the Sunday shows at the moment. Shangri-La Frontier continues to be upsettingly well animated, but good lord, is the content painful. I'm gonna attack the weakpoint! Wait, I can't. Well, anywhere I attack becomes the weakpoint! Oh, actually, I can attack the first weakpoint. Yay. I win. That fight took up half the episode, and then he went to grind mining until a random super wolf showed up that has literally never been beaten by anybody ever. Which as you know, is definitely how MMOs work. Players loved Absolute Virtue. I have no doubt that this dude with… two afternoons of gameplay… will have no chance whatsoever. Pfft.

This one has a little bit more of a narrative going on, and a much more likeable protagonist, even if his advice to just smile through all abuse is questionable at best, but absolutely nothing about its dumbass setting explanations is improving things. He could've just been a vampire or incubus or wendigo or any of the hojillion fantasy beasties that eat people with indistinct powers and not bothered with any of this asinine skill and stats crap that gets explained over and over. Which is especially dumb as it introduces draining off stuff into the sword, so I guess most of that stuff you just spent a while explaining is now gone. And like Shangri-La, just wanders off into the woods to kill random goblins for a bit, but with much worse animation, although it's also hard to even see in the dark.

The better protagonist and narrative give this the edge for me so far, but it really needs to lean in harder to those and stop pissing around with its idiotic totally-not-an-rpg stuff.
