Berserk Gluttony #01 — Skill Activated
October 1st, 2023
God, I love status screens.
Oops. Missed that this was being pre-aired on U-Next on Sundays before the main broadcasts on Wednesdays. Apparently on CR too. Oh well. One fewer Wednesday show. I gotta bounce at this point though. Witch stuff will come in likely the evening.
Impressions:
Let's cheer the show's restraint for only having a half-dozen or so status screens and instead spamming the narrator announcing that his skills had leveled up a hundred thousand times. Great job, show. You're a true trailblazer. I think the moment I enjoyed the most was when one of the generic bullies was complaining about somebody else taking an interest in their bullying target and the response from the other was "Literally who gives a rat's ass." That was the most creative and unique piece of this entire affair. Everything else is a witch's brew of every awful cliche that has plagued fantasy anime in the last five years except reincarnation.
He has the weakest power, but oops, it's actually the strongest because it's a forbidden power that gives him all the powers. The first two of which boil down to omniscience about anything he touches, living or inanimate. His level is minimum but his stats are already zwooping up to maximum. The fight against some random goblins was animated for about five seconds before it devolved into all stills. He is not the most repugnant protagonist out there, at least immediately attempting to use his newfound power for good… in rescuing enslaved girls from cackling lunatics, checking off those cliche boxes too, but that's very, very thin gruel.

I read it ages ago. It starts of bit interesting in an edgy direction, making you wonder about MC slowly being taken over by power but it all deflates pretty fast and pretty much goes nowhere. When it came out the whole sins reference was played out and while it has rested a bit, I don’t think its any fresher.
