Harley Quinn #44 — Days of Future Past
August 24th, 2023
I honestly miss when this show was more grounded.
Impressions:
I guess at least my assumption that Joker was just being an idiot was right on the money and they spent basically no time mincing around about that, though it just adds on to the pile of threads that have been dangling all season which are all going to need to be hastily and almost certainly unsatisfyingly wrapped up in the last minute, made worse by now doing two "oops, the future is an apocalypse" episodes in a row. With the time machine sitting right there, no doubt not going to be immediately blown up in a moment. But the piling on of extra threads must continue, as both Harlivy and Lex are blamed for this particular apocalypse without any further elaboration. Seems like something they'd be doing instead of selfies and being self-adulation. Might've also been a time to fit in that important conversation you spent the last however long screaming and losing your mind about.
I think the thing that annoyed me the most about this episode though was the speech about how they're awesome together as a response to how they're both self-absorbed jerks. Which is pretty damn accurate and true, and just shows how right their kid is about them. Was that supposed to have resolved Harley's mental issues? Is Ivy going to stop being a fame-chasing diva? Because it really seemed like that scene was more about them leaning into their worst behavior and issues this season and just going "Yay, us!" What happened to moral evil, Pamela? Or we don't kill, Harley? Pick a lane.
