Undead Girl Muckduck Fence #03 — Casual Dining

July 19th, 2023

Please leave the dinner table at some point.

Impressions:

I think this is where we part ways here too, as it's looking like this case is going to last at least three or four more episodes. Again, spoilers from glancing at things, but they've only now gotten around to picking up the hunter. At this pace, they still need to do a whole episode accusing him of obviously being the culprit, then a whole episode that he can't be the culprit and it must be someone close at hand, and then the kid hulks out and they have a punchy fight while given an explanation of how he dunnit. Almost fifteen… ONE FIVE… minutes of this episode takes place sitting at the table, commenting on the food. The pacing here is absolutely killing me.

This is not so compelling a story nor mystery that it needs a feature length film to go through. You're making up random vampire and monster facts every few minutes just to explain them, and not actually investigating at all, just having dinner and learning about the lifestyle choices of the local vampire gentry so the secret Nazi in the bunch has something to rant about a few episodes later. The characters are stoic bores, there's no banter nor developments. The random hunter from nowhere is the saddest excuse for a red herring imaginable. Anything interesting about the first episode is being totally squandered.

Surprisingly enough they’ve actually wrapped the case in the next episode.

Yeah, I did glance at it and was pleasantly surprised to see that, but was it was still basically two sets of monologues the whole way through and the most tremendously boring way to do a mystery.
