The Witch From Mercury #24 — Space Ghost
July 2nd, 2023
Coast to coast.
Impressions:
A couple months back when Suletta first 'lost', my prediction/assumption was that she was just going to plaintively wail at people about how we all need to Do Our Best and that'd fix everything because of her innate goodness. I did not, however, have on my Bingo card, that she would plaintively wail at people about how we all need to Do Our Best, and that would pierce the veil between heaven and Earth, bring everybody who ever died back to life, and unleash a swarm of magic ghosts upon the galaxy. What on Earth is this Back Arrow nonsense? And yet, probably the stupidest part was that they 'resolved' everything by declaring "We're selling the company!" Oh, well, then I guess nobody here is responsible for the apocalypse you guys unleashed. After all, Prospera has a disease. A disease from abusing ghost magic. Well, gee. I guess time served then.
So it somehow managed to be even stupider than even my low expectations. I still consider it goddamned incredible that the two protagonists basically did absolutely nothing the entire second half of this show. Suletta whined about not getting enough attention, and Miorine pressed a button twice. Truly masters of their destiny, drivers of the story, etc etc. And then there's all the other characters. Guel's arc was to go from being a spoiled rich ass to being a… spoiled rich ass. He comes back supposedly a changed man, and almost the first conversation he has was "Weren't you thrown out?" "No, I'm rich, which means I get to do what I want, but I'm melancholic instead of surly now." The writing was nonsense. The characters basically stopped the little they were doing at the halfway point. At least the school part's nonsense was funny for how poor the writing was. This second half was just flat out bad in nearly every way.

The last good made for TV Gundam was S1 of 00 in 2007/8. Zero chance I will watch this past the prequel ep and pilot. Iron-Blooded Orphans now comes off smelling like piss-stained roses by comparison. Uff.
The anime never developed the central romance or showed anything gay but there is an off-screen marriage in the background during the lase last scene. Queer baiting is now somewhat off the table and graded down to bad writing instead. Lol.
