Sweet Reincarnation #01 — The Hubris of Man
July 3rd, 2023
This is definitely one of the stupidest deaths in all of anime reincarnations.
Impressions:
I'm not sure how to cover this. Not because it's good. God no. But because one of the Chinese streaming sites accidentally uploaded the first two episodes, and the second is way funnier for its badness. Bandits attack the village, and the kid takes command since he is a super genius super dude, but the whole thing is so horrifically animated that it's just hilarious. The entire village, quaking in terror as one dude struggles to climb up a wall, zoomed waaaaay the hell out to keep things as unanimated as possible. And here comes the horde, just a single still, coasting along the ground. And let me tell you, since the actual first episode starts out with the dude being crushed by his own candy phoenix, it takes a lot to not only reach that level of stupidity, but go beyond it.
That's the only fun to be had here though. It's the usual reincarnation slop. He has all his memories so he's super duper smarter than everybody. He has extra powers, even if not to the absolute Over 9000 variety, not that he ever needs to use them nor is there any kind of story or plot going on that would require anybody doing goddamned anything, at least in this episode. We can ignore the bandits from 'next' week since they're totally out of left field. I guess you might find some amusement for how serious the opening theme is too compared to the utter vapid dross that is everything else in the show.

If it’s actually as bad as you’ve described then it might become my guilty pleasure show of the season like that Ice Mage from a winter season.
