Magical Destroyers #10 — Send in the Clones
June 9th, 2023
Don't bother, they're here.
Impressions:
As usual now, I'm not entirely certain how to take a lot of this episode and I'm not sure the juxtaposition of the wacky works when it's simultaneously trying to be dramatic and serious. Particularly the ending where everything appears to be a rough sketched manga created by Shobon, but about three minutes prior, Hero was goofily tumbling down stairs to a xylophone. What was acceptable at the start doesn't work so well as the goal has shifted from introducing crazy nonsense to instead trying to tie it all up. And even then, at least two thirds of the episode was sort of just random explosions. Could've done… I don't know, a Metal Gear or something kind of sequence at the very least, instead of… nothing.
Anyway, the ending is where everything's going to end up, but I couldn't say that I could really tell what the takeaway there was supposed to be. Is that meant to show that it was all orchestrated, or perhaps that the entire world is the screenplay of one megalomaniacal manga otaku? Failed screenplay writer? Or something else entirely. Blue and Pink having their own evil clones is far less interesting in comparison, particularly because they were just two masked randos out of nowhere, and nobody ever wears a mask except for shocking reveals. Except what possible reveals could be shocking?
