Dead Mount Death Play #12 — Getting Handsy

June 26th, 2023

What a horrific back half of the season this show has had.

Impressions:

The main takeaway here for me is that if you have a decent first episode or two, and then a decent sixth episode, you can probably string me along to at least 10 or so episodes. But this horrific non-ending is definitely where I'm putting a pin in it and calling it quits. If you're wondering if the protagonists finally leave their room for the big 'finale,' the answer is a resounding "not really." It even does a whole "dramatic-putting-on-of-jacket" just to instead going into a long pointless flashback. And then he doesn't even make it past the doorway, just casting magical tentacles at the random tertiary characters who still have yet to do jack squat except hop around and be obnoxious comic relief.

And that is how the season ends. Everybody just leaves and goes home. For the poor cops who never got to do anything at all in the entire show, they get to just stay home. No big reveals about the grand conspiracy. No big fight. Only flashbacks to the bikini goat-skull woman to further tell us what a nice but super duper mage not-Polka is, and some half-assed semi-transparent hands. Nothing advances. Nothing changes. No big cliffhanger. No hook for the next season. Nothing new at all. Literally, everybody just goes home, and for the protagonists, most of whom weren't even in the goddamned episode, they haven't left their stupid room since what… episode 7? Give me a goddamned break.

S2 debuts in fall but I gave up on the manga halfway though vol 1 so no dice.

Everthing good about DRR has been animated/made into a manga and Baccano manga and Blu Rays never sold so nothing more will ever be adapted there. It´s time to put Ryohgo Narita behind me as Fate/strange sucks so next month´s Fate TV movie is another skip. Oh Baccano, you were so good…

Yeah I also dropped the manga because of how slowly and into nowhere it was going. These 12 eps could have been 6 and nothing would have been lost. Its on the level of Kyokou Suiri when it comes to being stuck in a room and it does not have an excuse of being based on an old timey novel

There are quite a lot of shows announcing a continuation this year, hih.
