Dead Mount Lemmings Play #05 — Fork You
May 8th, 2023
Easier to animate in the dark when it's impossible to see, isn't it?
Impressions:
I feel much the same way about this as I did Hell's Paradise, just with the sliders tweaked a bit. Worse fight scenes and animation, but the story is moving at a crawl rather than at a total standstill, and the characters are slightly less relentlessly melodramatic ponces. Slightly. Not that it's doing it all that well though, but we're at least on our arguably second or third arc with saving these twins, despite the police/Flash Lemmings fight being not at all wrapped up in any way whatsoever and apparently just unceremoniously dropped to move straight to the next, with thankfully only about two minutes of filler aside, which is approximately 30 minutes less than the last break between 'story' bits.
Or maybe it's the levity, much as I've maligned its bad humor. It does help, and works well with how at least half the characters will happily take a swing at someone or stab a fork into a person without prefacing and postfacing it with a paragraph of explanation of character motivation, something certain other shows could take notes from. The brevity of the sucked-on fork prodding is a strength, and one of the rare moments in either of these shows where something happens that's snappy and advances the scene.
