Opus.COLORs #01 — Getting High With the Cult
April 6th, 2023
Oh, those silly rich brats.
Impressions:
You'd think there'd be some major societal issues with technology that can forcibly incite a psychotropic trance on anybody who looks at it, but here in bishie land, it's exclusively used for music videos. And they go to VR music video school to produce VR music videos. Oh, mind you, there's multiple whole bits where they take a time out to explain that things weren't always so rosy for VR music video artists, but now, after months of strife, it has taken the world by storm and everybody has loved it for long enough to construct billion dollar ranches to send all the pretty boy dilettantes to live in luxury while getting high off their asses on their own music videos.
No, I was not impressed. Not by the setting, the explanations of which I've barely scratched the surface because they also review the map of the ranch and how they're segregated according to cultish practices. Not by the characters, who are one dimensional cliches who have their personalities simply recited to each other. Not by the story, which didn't deign to show up this week, if it would ever show up at all. They're pretty boys. There are music videos that they sing in. That is your story. They used to be friends, now they… are still friends.
