Godless World #02 — Small Gods
April 12th, 2023
Ye lords, I wish this obnoxious thing was a tortoise instead.
Impressions:
If I'm not being asked to sit through 75 minutes of the ever-hungering idol industry advertisements, I'm being deafened through nonstop yelling. It's not even the rampant fanservice of a 10 year old that I find most obnoxious about this episode. Even the occasional simple background gags that aren't half bad quickly get drowned out by someone abruptly exclaiming AAAAAAAAAGGGGGHHHHH! I guess at least it's fully a comedy this episode instead of the ultra-melodramatic slaughter bit. So it gained slightly in consistency… largely by yelling more.
They could've at least done something slightly clever with the cultist stuff, and it seemed like they at least skimmed the wikipedia page on cold reading, but they only go as far as "cold reading is a thing psychics use to pretend to be psychic." Then the kid jumps in to yell something obviously wrong so they can all stay screaming in overreactions again, and that entire bit is completely dropped so it can make way for a supplemental tutorial for how the magic powers work and more of this show's particularly weird CGI animals. Also, apparently doing the OniMai thing here too, just to hit all the bases.
I know there's still one more Wednesday show yet to air next week, but it's yet another one of those Orphan Girl Gets Forcibly Married to Furry Overlord things, which I still do not understand why they're seeing such a surge. I'm not sure I could survive any of the Wednesday shows this season.

That CGI fox deserves mockery at the level of cabbage love, this has to be the most bizarre CGI insert ever into any anime.
