Birdie Wing #14 — Sunbeam Spam

April 7th, 2023

How else would you show it's sunny without a half-assed visual overlaid on every goddamned shot?

There's still five shows to go, but this popped up first, and let's continue the tour of misery. Oops. Gave away the episode.

Impressions:

As I've said so much even I'm sick of it, this show was kind of amusing when it was about crazy golfers doing crazy-ass stuff; hustling rich people, land deals with the mafia against vampire cosplayers cheating with stinky perfume, running from rocket launchers, etc. Things you would not expect in a show about girls playing golf. Then all of that was dropped in the second half so she could go to high school and learn how to putt from Sally Everyteen before the season unceremoniously ended, leaving the last six or so episodes simply an enormous complete waste of time. So now that I've re-aired my grievances with the first season, where does this pick things up?

This firmly continues with the second half of the first season. Yes, I'm aware, a shocker. They still could've used the break to understand what the… maybe not fun, but notable part of the first season was and gone back to that. Instead, they play a round of golf. And some girls have daddy issues. No crazy stuff happens. One girl makes flowers appear when she hits the ball. Eve makes guns appear. Everybody constantly gasps, with close-ups, at every second shot. The crazy-ass soap opera drama continues to be ratcheted down from Riverdale levels to Little House on the Prairie. They don't even finish one damn round of golf. I did not stick around for the golf. Nobody did. And unless the next episode has someone in an opera cape swearing revenge for golf slights of ten years ago in pursuit of the tiki idol of Ra, this is very likely where enough is absolutely enough.

I quit early last season as I knew that the show was too weird to follow through on it´s bonkers premise and was proven right when the last 6 eps gave up on that but the show came back for part 2 and remains a bunch of nothing. I would love to hear what went wrong or what the intent was.

If can´t even commit to the GL bait. So weird. The anime went from a show for someone to no one. There is nothing with any bite anymore here.

I want golf ninjas and a putting takeshi castle skit

If it does comfort you a little bit, the show did return to the mafia plotline, but only after we get some awful soap opera-caliber backstories for our yuri duo (that reveals that they are sisters technically lmao) that separates them again so we can go back to mafia antics in preparation for this important golf tournament.

Doesn’t improve much, but it’s better than plopping everyone into a boring high school setting.
