Is it just me, or has it been a while since we saw any giant beasts?

Impressions:

Another stalling episode, that I guess was ostensibly focused on the alchemist lady, but she just had a flashback about some dude abusing his pet magic girl, and then it was all waiting around and checking in on the various cults plotting to rule the world until it wastime to go. There's something deeply unsettling about the animal-hat people being some kind of psychic hivemind, capable of trading consciousness between each other, even before you get into them also secretly manipulating world events. But between the Empire's own cult, their mad scientist subcult, and all the wandering old men who have declared themselves the arbiters of history, that seems about par for the course. 

Meanwhile, that one lady knight and her squire are off in the desert somewhere, meeting up with yet another cult. Or maybe just a secret village of priests? I have no idea. Hell, I have no idea when she's going to serve any point or join up with the rest of the plot. Aren't there only three episodes left? Is that one druggie scientist really going to be the last boss? Or are we already settling in for another cour? What ever happened to the giant beasts anyway?
