Fired Dark Knight #01 — Cheat Powers Included
January 7th, 2023
That's not how you hold a shield.
Another six premiere day. Probably going to take this one a little more gradual, just because by the time I woke up on a Saturday morning, there were already 4 awful shows sitting there waiting for me, with another currently airing.
Impressions:
It's always a little annoying when things end up exactly as terrible as they appear to be on the cover. And in all promos. And all pre-air material. And this is the godawful cheat power (not) reincarnation thing that it appears to be. Five minutes on how he's being kicked out of the party. Five minutes of woe is me monologuing. Five minutes of explaining how the stats rule the setting. Five minutes of showing that he has complete maxed stat cheat powers and is a walking demigod, complete with stat web character sheets. The end.
Animation is garbage. Story is nonexistent. Characters existed solely to deliver monologues, internal or external, or to give the camera some cleavage to repeatedly focus on. There was even a jerk at the end who did the whole "You're just E rank, and I'm D! You absolute gaaaarbage!" I don't know what the hook is supposed to be here, or if this just spontaneously formed in a marketing department chasing recent popular cliches, but I see absolutely nothing of any merit in this episode. The best I can say is that it wasn't as overtly loud or irritating as some of these, and didn't glamorize slavery or gratuitous violence against the underclass, sexual or otherwise. Yet.
