Disillusioned Adventurers #01 — Retail Therapy

One of these backstories is not like the others.

Impressions:

Well, I'll say that this is far far less trashy than the light novel illustrations, and doubly so for the manga, which is nonstop crotch and bobb shots. What is there instead though? Four people were unjustly fired from their jobs, so each one gets a seven minute backstory to explain it. If you're good at math, you might already see an issue, because we only get through three of them, meaning it doesn't even finish setting up its own premise of a montage of premises. For the first two, the dude became obsessed with the first woman who paid attention to him and sunk all his money into idol merchandise. The woman lost all her money gambling at the track, and apparently has scary eyes, so despite tons of people approaching her to join their party, they all run off screaming. Been a while since I remember seeing that awful cliche. Oh, and she doesn't smile enough. These aren't really jokes. These are the serious events traumatizing them.

Then we get to the last story. A girl accused the dude of raping her out of pure spite, and so he was pilloried by all, except for the kindhearted woman who took him in. Yes, this is somehow comparable to the above two. It's a mess, without even getting into the gross stuff of the priest's deal. It's just a collection of the various "kicked from the party" tropes that have become popular lately, told rapid fire one after another, each one more cliche and gross than the next. There's few attempts at humor, especially in the second half of the episode, and it should go without saying that the story and characters go nowhere since it's all them just reciting their 'tragic' backstories, again, of things like "I got really into idols for a weekend." Animation? God no. But at least it was a lot quieter than the previous episode. That is something that at least gave my ears a slight relief.

3 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

  • NeclordX says:

Priest doesn’t fuck the kid or priest gets expelled and busted for being accused of fucking the kid…I dont know which one is less credible.

The backgrounds of this show were hilariously bad and the character designs hilariously code geass.

Aside of that didn’t find it particulary awful. Not the worst fantasy with idols show, not the best

  • ark noir says:

aye, she be o.k. Honey trapping at that age and covering your own butt when it goes pear shaped is a sign of potential. the background stories were terrible bar the priest who is a stud.

  • The Phantom says:

My favorite of the season, not amazing but definitely fun even if childish.
