Loner Rock! #05 — Nice Dam
November 5th, 2022
I kind of wish at least one stayed in the bowl cut just for the weirdness.
FYI, I didn't skip Mega Moose yesterday. It's on hiatus this week and next for 'production difficulties.' Though at this point, I very well may just stop caring about it entirely. Lord knows nobody else cares a whit about it.
Impressions:
Another episode where I can't help but wish that the writers had a fraction of the ambition and flair that the animators did. I fully understand that the banality… excuse me… the slice of life… is at least part of the point, but give me at least the whiff of slightly more substance than "girls try their best." You can still do that and have other things going on at the same time, or even better yet, in addition to that. Especially if they fail, but grow in some other way.
But alas, it's a particularly dramatic focused episode where they have to try their best to show that they're… trying their best. They have to audition so that they can go to regionals or whatever. Which is itself just an excuse for a couple long monologues about how they need to try their best and a montage of them trying their best. So we can have it explained to us that it's clear they're trying their best, but need to try their best, harder, bestier. It's all nonsense, and the show's strength is the humorous artistic expression, not four thousand words of pure padding.

this is based on a manga so the anime staff can’t change the writing too much
