Akiba Maid War #06 — Turf War
November 10th, 2022
Way to fridge that girl.
Impressions:
Oh, hey. Just like I mentioned last week, that one helpful maid gets herself shot in the face as part of apparently what's going to be an entire gang war arc. It's a bit shy of even West Side Story though, particularly with them shying away so hard from just making it a serious relationship. It's probably meant to be a joke about Yakuza blood brothers or something, but the whole bonding ritual was… nothing, really. The whole thing would've had a lot more weight if they had an actual relationship if that's what they were going for, not to mention that the mundanity of it was the only thing even approaching comedy of the episode, black or otherwise.
What it doesn't answer though is the question of "So what?" I can't see Nagomi changing much because of this, though it'd be nice to be surprised if she at least took on a sharper edge. It's also more than a little weird to me that Ranko is a big proponent of letting a friend of a friend be executed in front of her. She hasn't exactly been a play-by-the-rules person to date, and wasn't she suggesting that they assassinate this exact person they just ran into in a dark alley earlier? And who just left promising to kill you? What more favorable situation to shoot her in the face are you waiting for?
