Chainsaw Man #02 — That’s My Purse!

I don't know you!
Impressions:
I'm not sold on this either. While Ittoki astounded me with its godawful writing and general stupidity, the melancholic atmosphere here just remains… very melancholic. It's not screaming at me incessantly, so it compares favorably to most other Jump shows, but the story and characters ain't moving anywhere either. Mostly, and not to spoil, but I'm amazed that apparently it's a big surprise that the woman who refers to people as her dogs, is openly manipulative, and has every dude instantly in fistfights in order to win her favor would turn out to not be a good guy.
It's basically an episode of three parts, each introducing a new character, with the only connective tissue being each one in turn explaining that they are A.) Devil Hunters and B.) Devil Hunters hunt devils. Optional C.) This is a very serious thing. First the manipulative woman. Then the obligatory overly serious dude. Then the obligatory quirky girl, though the protagonist himself had completely retaken internal narration at that point. One thing the ninja show has over this, aside from properly budgeting animation towards fight scenes instead of parkour, is that the protagonist is actually making himself a part of the story instead of just leering at women for twenty minutes and being an ass for no real reason.
