Chainsaw Man #01 — Neuter Your Pets

Before they possess you.
Impressions:
It's a pretty poor first impression to start off with a slow walk down a hallway before cutting away to a field where a dude goes "Here I go about to do something cool," then the OP plays, then it cuts past that to say "Wow, I totally did a cool thing. Off screen. When you weren't looking. No, you can't see it. Moving on." Most of the rest of the show is spent in the wonderful town of Internal Monologue-ville. It is a far more sedate show and main character than Jump usually produces, even with turning into a berserk cuisinart towards the end, which makes the deadpan monologuing fit all the less. I assume there's supposed to be a contrast between things, but it's just going from weird and surreal to surreal but with CGI zombies, chainsaw noises, and a monster screaming.
Frankly, the minor weirdness was probably the best part for me. The action bit at the end was… fine. Better than Ittoki's, certainly, in length and animation, but also a lot more nonsense screaming that was pretty jarring and obnoxious given the relative melancholic atmosphere of the rest of the episode. Chopping down a tree using your weird dog's face though? At least surreal enough to warrant not quite a chuckle, but at least a bemused "Hmm."
It and Ittoki are still the only Tuesday shows though. I'm not particularly enamored by either of their opening episodes, but what else is there?
