Spy x Family #12 — Hurry Taylar

Impressions:

What a way to end this season. What a horrible dumb idiotic pointless way. Essentially a filler episode where they go to the world's worst aquarium solely to harass some penguins in between recapping the premise of the show. As usual, both Yor and Lloyd did exactly one thing, one token overture towards the premise, and the rest was spent 'comically' being flustered at penguins and/or making faces. You thought all that stuff about a dog was the start of some arc? Pfft. That's for next season. Did a production snafu force them to air things out of order or something? Or was this episode just so wafer thin that they thought doing recap to end the season would be a nice wrapup?

Yeah, it's probably on me for hoping that the high octane spy/assassin antics of the first two episodes would… exist… at any point past the first two episodes, but it's not like there was a whole lot of comedy going on here either. Anya makes faces. You know where we can go to get "child makes faces" in anime? Swing a dead cat in a circle and see how many anime you bludgeon. It'll be all of them, even the horror ones. Especially the horror ones. It had no interest in engaging with the things I found fun about the first couple episodes, and the very rare over the top animated bits (really only the Takeshi's Castle episode) were nowhere near enough. Unless it comes out of the gate running when it returns in three months and doesn't let off the gas like it did this time around, I can't see myself continuing any further with it.

Next Episode:

Oh, there's the dog arc. In three months.

This episode was based on a chapter after the manga changed magazines and they left the recap in, its funny because with how the pacing going they might actually get the dog at the END of next season, its what happens when you adapt a already slow manga with only like 60 chapters

  • LUNI_TUNZ says:

Yeah, this episode felt more like the beginning of the second part, than the end, the recap made no sense without the usual “production problem,” excuse.

  • Victor says:

Honestly, was the weakest of the “big” popular anime that was airing this season I felt like. I much preferred Kaguya-sama and Parapi Koumei to SpyFamily.
