RWBY – Ice Queendom #03 — Fake It Till You Fake It Till You Make It
June 25th, 2022
There goes the budget.
Impressions:
…And then there's this absolute nonsense. What even happened here? Obviously, to start, the budget finally collapsed, which still puts it miles ahead of things like Dawn of the Witch or Virgin Road, but good god. It kept going "We'll need to fight this!" and then unceremoniously cutting past with just the remark "They sure fought that and what a crazy fight it was." Which it uses to blast through multiple different completely unrelated bits. It explains how there's this other kind of internal parasite angst monster, they beat it off-screen, and totally drop it to hang out with a robot girl and be racist. And then cut past the robot girl nuking a local terrorist/smuggler cell. Seems like the kind of thing we all would have liked to see. Why are we skipping past the interesting parts? To show more threads bouncing in the air because that's way easier to animate?
The only thread sort of connecting anything is that it was once again the white one being bitchy. Someone yelled at for it and dedicated 10 points from Gryffindor, so she decided to not be. Then someone else yelled at her for faking it, so she decided… to also not be again for the second time. Was this supposed to be her character arc? It makes about as much sense as them looking at the monster that causes vine bruises across the entire body and saying "Well, what you really need to pay attention to is if anybody feels mopey." Seems to me like a cursory physical examination might do a bit more good here, but I'm no dream doctor.

With the exception of the Nightmare plot, this is just retreading boring old grounds.
