She Professed Herself Etc #01 — CGI Brought To You By 1983
January 11th, 2022
Teenager Power Fantasy Tuesday off to the completely expected start.
Impressions:
What on earth is going on with the CGI in this show? It is godawful to a level that is baffling. Did they decide to do it all from scratch and then hand it off to interns? Then again, no other parts of this are any better. It starts off with a three minute infodump explaining that this is a VRMMO. Three goddamned minutes just to explain that. After we finally finish that infodump and sit through the opening, it's time for another five minute infodump where characters recite fun facts about each other and themselves. "As you know, you created that character to be a wizard." "Yes, I watched a lot of movies and am emulating a wizard because I want to roleplay a wizard." "Yes, we have known each other for a long time, and as you remember, we founded this kingdom." Who needs organic dialogue? Since we're eschewing all animation, might as well ditch all dialogue too and go to just a montage for the rest of the episode.
None of it even makes any sense either, even before you get to the random reincarnation/fanservice barrage with helpful censoring flora at the end. It spends a lot of energy in insisting that fighters are the best and strongest, so they had to make a whole kingdom of nothing but mages to escape persecution… Oh, but also mages are the strongest and coolest and best and are unstoppable weapons of mass destruction. You know, maybe that could have been the reason everybody hates mages, not because of how supposedly weak and helpless they are, but then we would realize that the entire premise is a power fantasy of an ubermensch punching down and might get unpleasantly close to an iota self-realization.

It really ticks me off that he kept talking as his Gandalf ripoff character considering 1. It was his character in an online game and 2. He no longer looks like said character but instead as a little girl. You’d think he’d at least drop the fantasy old dude speech larp aspect but alas.
Also, did they seriously get away with not voicing the last quarter of the episode?
