takt op.Destiny #02 — Manic Pixie Piano Thief

October 12th, 2021

Seriously. What's with all the pianos in random places in this setting?

Impressions:

Boo origin stories. Boo manic pixie girlfriends. Boo eschewing all the fun and over the top action for a whole episode of sappy drama for a girl we already know gets thrown into the fridge to be robot-icized. And also, what the hell was with that manic grin on his face while they were playing corny Looney Tunes music? Dude was a bit too into that. Frankly, I find myself once again on the side of the angry flying yeti that just wanted the piano scene be over.

Well, not really, at least not totally, but the episode did lay it on ridiculously thick and a lighter touch would have definitely helped things move along a little bit faster and more effectively. It's such a painfully saccharine relationship. Cosette is utterly and completely devoted to him in every way because his music is eeeeevvvvveeerrrrryyyyything. And she's a quirky manic pixie girl that puts up with his grumpyness because she is just plain perfect in every way. What a tragedy it will be when a random rocket from the sky ruins that. Frankly, the other dynamic is both far more fun and far more real, despite one of them being essentially a robot, simply because it's not so transparently cloying and manipulative.

2 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

  • The Phantom says:

This show is really bad, I mean Polyphonica did this better and it was a average show at best, this is just outright boring. This season is only Mushoku Tensei, nothing else is worth a damn.

  • LUNI_TUNZ says:

This feels like it should have been the post-season OVA episode instead of episode two.

If Cosette had to be human, it would have been a much better slow reveal.
