Jobless Reincarnation #01 — Look Who’s Talking

January 10th, 2021

Internal narration is the greatest storytelling device.

Impressions:

Meanwhile, this one is almost a bundle of "things done completely wrong." No female can appear without having a fifty year old man in the body of an infant comment on her breasts, likely followed by something regarding her underwear, and probably a summation of which otaku fetish she's supposed to be appealing to. This is on top of the internal narration just never, ever, ever, shutting the hell up despite there being zero story to speak of. Deep voice dude reincarnated as a kid. Immense magical powers. Super genius. Surrounded by boobs. We're not treading bold new ground here that requires seventy thousand words and twenty minutes to explain. And yet, explain we do. Over and over and over.

And… I don't actually know what else there is to say. The production kicks in every now and then, mostly to overanimate casting a spell or a dude flexing. Otherwise, it's fairly nonexistent. If you think I'm being over the top about it being fanservicey, twice his parents start having sex in front of him while he grins like a pervert, which is somehow less obnoxious than it immediately declaring every female a stereotype and then them trying their hardest to live up to the label. There's no comedy here either, and definitely not any dealing with the middle aged man narrating the whole thing through the body of a 0-5 year old. I've seen this episode a dozen times before. It just doesn't have status screens. Yet.

wait, is this the show as good as the novelfags say?

  • Frank says:

It seems you had misjudged a lot of stuff in the anime before realizing the context that are present at that moment. There are a lot of thing that will subvert your expectation based on how you presented your view to this anime, one thing that I can assure you, since I have read the series multiple time, there will be no status screen on this anime.

  • Gamen says:

….That was actually not as bad as I was expecting. I can’t hate that the narration is being done by Kyon.

Still, it’s an anime adaptation. Not going keep my hopes up… or even continue watching it probably. Back to reading.

  • The Phantom says:

You seem to get this before the show is even available with subs, which reminds me this is how I reached this blog, I was trying to spoil myself episodes of Asura cryin / Phantom requiem of the Phantom like 11 years ago, before they were even available. Well done.

These days, the (automatically grabbed and released) simulcasts are usually up before even the low quality raws show up on the backchannel streaming sites that I used to always grab them from because even the normal higher resolution raws would usually take at least a few hours, if not an entire day. Such progress.

I just assumed you lived in japan and watched them as they aired. now that I think about it, that would not explain how you got screen shots

Back in the long long ago, like the ZKC days, I used to watch direct streams and cap from them. I've gotten lazy in my old(er) age, but the rippers have gotten far more consistent and faster too. Well, and not a lot of things air in those morning slots that match up to the evening in the US anymore. AT-X was the main one outside of the more kid-based cartoons, and it did away with that timeslot for anime years ago.

  • NeclordX says:

Bro, did you skip Ex-Arm? Do you need to watch it. Its…outworldly a complete new experience.

    • Aroduc says:

I’ve tried to avoid Japan’s really REALLY bad experiments with CGI. I enjoyed ReBoot back in the day. I did my part.

      • Ark noir says:

Aroduc you have to review or at least skim through ex-arm. It’s not a bad manga nor great either storywise, but the anime is something else. You have to see it to believe it. The animation/CGI mash up is quite possibly the worse and funniest thing I have seen in years.

There’s a scene with the two brothers in one shot conversing. One is regular animation and the other is CGI. It’s tremendous lol. You can’t but notice how it natural and unsettling it is. The CGI characters move, fight and talk like they came off a sega game made from a Naomi board from the 90s.

  • Tiresias says:

I wonder how many people recognize the reference in this article’s title?

  • Anonymous says:

This story does get a tonal shift down the road but I think in the anime it will come around ep 12. plus I did not much care for the story in the manga.
