I’m Standing On a Million Lives #01 — Self-Parody

Oh boy, status screens.

Sooooooooo, the initial Tokyo MX broadcast of this was… a thing, and I consider it to be an amusing enough thing that I'm using the screencaps of it. The audio and script is completely identical to the 'real' version (which was simulcast on I believe Crunchyroll, and should be broadcast on BS11 and MBS later today, and Tokyo MX in a couple days), but the whole thing is drawn/animated like… well, see below. But I think that these screenshots cover things nicely. I did watch the 'actual' version, and you'll just have to take my word for it that it's also basically unanimated and pure dreck, as if all the status screens weren't clue enough to that.

Impressions:

It's hard to even tell which terrible trend it's going for. It starts out with an angsty dude grinning about fighting and how much greater this is over the real world because he gets to fight. Then it tries to be a comic relief parody for about the next ten minutes. Hell, he dies multiple times as a slapstick gag. Except by parody, I mean of course things like "this is exactly like an MMO!" Status screens and all. Hell, they can't even touch items that aren't on their status screen. That's how dedicated to the bit it is.

But then they go "if we all die, it's FOR REAL!" with all the angsting and melodramatic wailing over how awful that is. At which point a troll spawns out of nowhere and all injuries are now permanent. One of them gets their hand bitten off and the other eaten, and they just go "Eh, well, whatever. Things happen," and it's back to overreacting goofily. Then he goes off to grind on goblins while the ultra dramatic music kicks back in. It's a mess, and the dumb version of the visuals is probably the most interesting thing it's going to do.

Wait, so this was made in two versions? This flash-animated one and a “real” one?

This manga is so bad, so so bad. Trinity Seven artist is talented for sure and leads to appealing character designs, but everything else is just… dreck is a good word for it.
