Speaking of lesbians…

Impressions:

The direction really gives away the game here. Well, they're not actually being subtle at any point, I suppose. The first five minutes are basically all flushed girls as the camera coyly hovers up their skirts, almost, but never quite catching a shot of their underwear. Then it goes on to have them internally narrate an introduction to their friends. One of their friends is "has big boobs." The other friend is "constantly fondling big boobs." That's their entire introductions and personalities before it's back to the main two being flushed and staring wistfully at each other as bloom engulfs the land. And I haven't even gotten into the super subtle metaphor of them "drowning" in each other.

It seems to me to be the same as all these faux relationship shows are, built entirely around awkward fumbling teenagers doing the will-they-won't-they when the answer is self-evident about three seconds into the episode. I've gotten into romance shows before, at least to the level where I can tolerate them, but they were always about characters actually trying to pursue relationships; characters trying to move forward, grow, develop, pursue what their hopes and dreams, not characters who are content to just sit on their asses and mawk for the camera while it pervs on them in ways that would get people thrown in jail. This relationship isn't interesting because it doesn't actually exist. They do not actually interact with each other. They just exist in broadly speaking, the same general space. Tell a story. Grow some characters. Put them through trials and have them come out better on the other side. Don't just monologue insipidly about the ennui of existence.
