Yo. Where'd the animation here come from?

If you're wondering about that President, Battle show, the first half was spent shopping. The second half was the start of "an event," which is to say that they met their rivals and stood outside a door for ten minutes, and then it ended with "To be continued." It's not comparing favorably to (either of) the bad MMO shows from last season, somehow.

Impressions:

That fight was deliciously brutal, and while there were moments here and there that screamed "missing frames to be added for DVD version," it was definitely the best animated action scene from this season so far. It was also probably helped by the protagonist side being mostly silent for it too. I think the biggest strike against it is that it probably should have come last week, as her executing the girl would have been a much better ending to an episode, but I wouldn't want this one to have been stretched out more. If they manage to pull out this kind of fight every other week, this show's stock just rose quite a bit. Hopefully they'll add some more pitch and flow to the fights, but this was a strong showing for the first taste.

Which leads to the continuing negative part of the episode; the protagonist. After the pseudo-sex bit of the girl entering him, he spends the whole thing curled up in the fetal position, crying. Only partially metaphorically. You can do a pacifist protagonist with super powers. One of my favorite heroes from literature, the Stainless Steel Rat, is a staunch pacifist. Even Batman has a very distinctive thing about guns. There is a wide gulf of stances to take about violence and the application of it when faced with murderous monster people as you're trapped in some kind of murder game, and sobbing in the corner about it is not the right one.
