We Never Learn #01 — Education By Screaming
April 6th, 2019
Space goat is being fed well today.
Impressions:
It's not often that I'll say this (but honestly, I probably could say it more), but some panty shots or trashy fanservice would really go a long way to spice this up. I assume the original source was full of them by all the low-angle shots, but this is apparently trying to appeal to a higher class. Without the fanservice though, what is left here? A dude narrating every single thing he sees in between yelling at girls for being dumb? Or screaming at them for being within five feet of him? Or them screaming at him for screaming at them? Oh, and now he's screaming at them for touching him, and screaming because a boob was rubbed against him. There we are.
I'm not sure what there is here unless you've got a loud noise fetish with internal narration being your chosen mode of foreplay. There's nothing interesting going on here visually. No weird directing or the like. The music is a bit on the lull-you-to-sleep side, which also doesn't help juxtaposed against a dude randomly screaming every thirty seconds. If it's meant to be a comedy… even if the screaming is meant to be the sign of a punchline… it's about as far from snappy as you can get. There will undoubtedly be comparisons made to the Quintuplets thing from last season where the gimmick was that there were five girls rather than two, and that they were just dumb rather than specialized idiot savants, and they'll be well-deserved, although hell if I could tell you which one is better. Probably the one with more girls, purely on quantity.

I skimmed the manga. This episode adapted chapter 1&2, ch.1 has a pleasing bath scene for the two girls after he admits he looked at their notebooks. Tan swimmer girl doesn’t appear in those chapters (or ch.3) so they’re rushing the anime (and skipping fanservice which ticks me off).
