Carole and Tuesday #01 — Mama Mafia

April 10th, 2019

The oppression theme by mother characters may be a little heavy handed.

Impressions:

This episode really helped me out by coming to a complete stop at the halfway point. It was already pretty self-indulgent, but then the entire second half was just "OMG, music makes you feel emotions!? Music makes me emotional too!" "OMG!" "OMG!" "OMG I KNOW!" A shame, too, because I found the snarky actress and her transsexual abusive pimp far more interesting. Tuesday, the titular blonde, runs away from home and her oppressive mother to chase her dream of… playing guitar, I guess, which is the extent of her characterization in the episode. Carole, the other one, has a future skateboard, poor work ethic, and… busks by scatting, I guess, which is also the extent of her characterization. I think it's clear why I prefer the one whose ass is splayed for the camera before going to see her surly pimp with a Three Stooges haircut.

It's a glorified ad for melodramatic CDs, basically. The two leads have little to them beyond "music is so emotional and great!" and it spends a solid probably third of the episode just on shots of them being swept up in the emotional music of emotion. The only other thing that really sets it apart are the random CGI future bot stuff it tosses around to flesh out the many… ugh… slice of life montages. If all you want is something kind of pleasant to listen to and not hard on the eyes, you can probably do worse, but it's still pretty much just an idol show that takes itself more somewhat more seriously, and I've had my fill of those for more than a few lifetimes.

I bet the she-ra 2018 crowd are going to love this and make porn of the two almost lesbians while complaining that anime fans are pedos.

  • v1cious says:

I dont know… It doesn’t feel like an idol show to me so far, it’s closer to NANA or Beck. I really enjoyed the first episode.

  • ark noir says:
