Anima Yell! #01 — Chairleading
October 7th, 2018
A joke so great, let's use it every chance we get.
Impressions:
There's a kind of irony that these supposedly inspiring innocent club shows about girls doing their bestest tend to more fatigue and depress me. Then again, they themselves are rather uninspired, so perhaps not so ironic. It's an obnoxious girl who has apparently never seen it before in her life, literally shaking in excitement and then it becomes her mission in life to badger a stranger into helping her… and she's so touched by friendship and the joy of cheerleading that she's won over. Yay clubs. Yay friendship. Yay stupid faces. And now, another character will mistake "cheer" for "chair."
It has about as much to do with cheerleading as it does with competitive dog dancing, and it's a wonder we haven't seen a dumb club show on that yet. The pink one is loud, annoying, and her triumphant moment is climbing a tree. You see, because she's so scared of heights that even stairs make her queasy. That's how magical this activity that she just discovered and knows literally nothing about is to her. Not that we're going to focus on any of it after the opening seconds. It's not that magical. And it's just like being an idol! Which is something the show also feels the need to point out, for the really slow people in the audience.

Pretty unusual for a non-Forward Kirara series to ruthlessly mock this poor too-dumb-to-live girl for her speech impediment.
