Chio’s School Road #01 — Desmond’s Darkest Incarnation

July 6th, 2018

I mostly know about Assassin's Creed through laughing at its glitches.

Impressions:

So much for that understanding of parody and a light touch the promos had. If this would just commit to its schtick, more the first half's than the second's, I could see it at least rising to the level of humor in something like that Weird Al cartoon. The jokes come far too slowly and especially in the second half are tortuously forced out, like they believe a forty-five second monologue on all the possible scenarios as to why someone would say hi in your direction somehow equates a joke. At best, you can say that it doesn't add a stinger to some of the jokes about Chio being oblivious. And that's practically the only joke in the second half at all.

There's plenty of humor ripe for the taking here too, but if you were thinking that "girl imagines she's in Assassin's Creed on her way to school" would be used for more than 2-3 jokes across ten minutes, half of which were already shown in the promos, you're going to be left sorely wanting. Got to make time for Chio to repeat for the fifteenth through twenty-ninth times how she doesn't want to stand out. It badly needs to cut the padding and simply commit and embrace the weirdness and this episode decidedly did not do that.

The chapters seem to be out of order, the one in the preview should’ve been the second part of this episode. Are they trying to stretch out the budget?

Seems like the next episode will have three stories in there so maybe the pacing will be better.
