Devils Line #01 — Fast Forward

April 7th, 2018

Yo. What on earth is up with the action animation in this show?

Impressions:

It's weird. I think what they've done is animate it normally, and then speed it up by a factor of 2. It's like watching a regular fight on fast forward. Well, not a regular anime fight, because that would be all grunting, but you get what I mean. And it's genuine martial arts choreography too. Let's enjoy that! Maybe they watched too much Vampire Diaries where they also use this kind of thing to show how fast vampires are, by speedwalking at 6x speed. This is animation though, I'm pretty sure there are better ways to get that across rather than cranking up the playback to weird levels.

Unfortunately, the other approximately 18 minutes of the episode are pretty damn dull. Girl on date with dude, dude is a vampire who wants to eat her. Saved by other vampire who also wants to eat her, but sexually. Blazing some bold new trails with vampire stories here. And same with the characters. Our lead is a dusky, moping, terse angstblob, while our damsel in distress is a helpless, wilting, doe eyed ninny who spends the entire episode staring in wide-eyed shock. Compelling characters for a compelling tale. Clearly what it should've spent 75% of its time on instead of the kung fu blonde vs vampires.

apart from the virtua boy intro, how long can that MC bird own that deer in the headlights look for every situation cos she had it from scene 1. My favorite part of this terrible crap was the part when both prominent male characters had a vamp pop at her in total contrast to their roles and……….ah forget it I remembered what made moi hate Vampire Knight.
