Moment by Moment #03 — And Now, Pratfalls
January 21st, 2018
Why not have some slapstick?
Impressions:
Whoever thought the comic interlude between the world's most spineless father and the world's brattiest child was a good idea needs to be kicked in the face. The staff apparently thought it was a laugh riot though, given the music track and the number of pratfalls involved. I'm putting that at an even lower bar than the part where they reviewed and recapped how tree people hate messing with frozen people, because why not have some little side bit serving no point in the episode except to give an excuse to rehash and summarize the same exposition you gave just last week? In the face of that, the guy at the end pretending to be frozen seems almost like genius level writing. One starts to wonder how many times they're going to use the same cliffhanger each week, to say nothing of random magic thingy resolving it.
This continues to do nothing but bore. And confuse, I guess. So Dude C is struggling with Girl A, calls out for help, Dude D runs in, and in those few seconds, Girl A has not only freed herself from Dude C's grasp, but the two of them are in completely different rooms now? They would go on to explain the patently obvious about her newfound power, of course, followed by never using it for the rest of the episode. Might've come in handy at some point. Sorry, Sundays. I don't think I have it in me to continue suffering through the talk-a-thon. The story is going nowhere fast, and all the characters are good for is exposition.

I was intrigued by the concept so I read the manga, so far nothing substantial seems to happen. few plotlines that go nowhere or information that could have been deduced in the first ep.
