Fate Project – New Years Special #02-3 — Cooking for Schmucks

December 31st, 2017

Okay. I think we've all had enough Fate for a very long time now.

Impressions:

…Better than the other GO thing is absolutely relative though. I suppose it was just trying to be a random collection of a bunch of gags, and coming from a 4-panel spinoff thing, it kept the pace up. The jokes never really amounted to more than just overreacting though, which has become the default standard for everything. It would've been right at home being about five episodes of one of the many, many SO RANDOM shorts that are constantly airing at any given time, which is in itself its own problem. There was the one segment where everything got a little too real. That was the closest thing to parody in the whole bit.

And yet, we end on something that I suspect was made either out of complete obliviousness, or just to screw with people. I assume the former. They see people talking about all the cooking in Fate Stay/Night and assume "That's what people really want!" Blithely unaware that they already got it in most adaptations to begin with, which unfortunately had to keep being interrupted by having to put in fighting or a story. Or pretending to at least. So here's what everybody really wanted, twelve minutes of Shirou going shopping, and then fussing around in the kitchen. Please ignore the previous literal hours of it that we've had in every other adaptation to date.

You know what? After thinking about it, cooking IS what I really want from F/SN. I want a shokugeki no soma or yakitate japan style holy grail war where they cook amazing meals for each other and the losing Servant has a flashback to a happy time from his previous life while foodgasming to death.

Perhaps this all cooking and delicious foodgasming is to show the young viewers how “selfcooking” is more tasty then fast food.. So this is an healthy food education
