King’s Game #01 — Gore-Porn Clownfest
October 5th, 2017
I rather like that phrase.
Impressions:
I have to admit that I'm a little pleasantly surprised by how this was handled. At least for the start. Perhaps then it's just that the main pair are a little more tolerable without beating the audience over the head with how he's a traumatized survivor and she's not an insecure shirking wallflower, and at least one of the other characters has their heads on straight and calls him on his BS. Mostly, I think, it's that instead of playing up the melodrama to the extreme, it took a bit of a lighter touch, and didn't spend long scenes explaining the basics of things. It got to all that eventually, and most of the class is so far beyond melodramatically ridiculously petty and evil that any thought of taking this as anything but a gore-porn clownfest died in the second half.
In fact, basically all of the actual content is pants-on-head imbecilic. No part of his temper tantrum about just kissing someone wasn't eye-rollingly awful, and same goes for the entire class. It's kissing, guys, not making a snuff film dressed like Mr. Snuffleupagus. It's also more than a little asinine when the proof is "Uh, how's about you Google my last school and how my entire class died gruesome mysterious deaths?" Granted, would've still made him suspicious nonetheless, but they hit that note anyway, so giving up and consigning people to death, even when they're trying to do the thing anyway, simply because his first attempt failed isn't exactly endearing. And I guess we're all as a fictional society just ignoring mass deathery too for that matter. Best not to engage your brain at all, I suspect. Which does raise the question as to how one is supposed to get invested in any part of it. Such is the paradox of the clownfest.

I think this guy is actually the mastermind and pretends to be the victim, also the purple haired girl seems like dead all along, she died with her parents probably.
Of course not an anime to take seriously but hey is fun to see people die, so I will be watching this for sure.
