Just Because! #01 — The Very Confused Tuba Player

October 5th, 2017

Googling "tuba sheet music" is really hard, guys.

Impressions:

My favorite part of the entire episode by a massive margin is how the tuba player is reading completely insane sheet music. It's an octave off from where a tuba can even reasonably play, two octaves from the normal range, and the second page is just a copy of the first page with the notes moved down one line. Keys do not work that way. It's a wonder they have the right clef. That should also give the completely expected picture of another one of these high school non-dramas that Japan lazily files under "slice of life" and thinks that's a good enough excuse to not have a story or characters. But they put texts on screen! I guess the director was really flexing their muscles there. Rest assured that they were nearly all spoken too. We just didn't want to stare at a wall or kids walking for the fifteenth time without anything going on.

It's just a bunch of bland nobodies going about their day, staring wistfully into the distance with general malaise at the burden of being a teenager. There is no drama. There are no conflicts. Nothing changes in anybody's mundane little world that might be a sign of growth or change. It bounces from one twatwaffle to the next without rhyme or reason. It's just twenty minutes of static. I don't know why people watch this. I don't know how people watch this. Because the especially wide mouths make them look a little more like frogs than other shows? Seems as good a reason as any.

“It’s just twenty minutes of static” Brutal but yea thats true, they need to tone down the brightness a ton as well.
