Love and Lies #01 — The Deadeyed Stare

July 3rd, 2017

Someone get a restraining order.

I'm a lot slow to get moving this morning because it's a rare four day weekend, so I was up late, and slept in. Luckily, it would seem that the awful-looking light novel adaptation about living in an apartment building with demons that aired waaaay earlier than this is even later to show up, and still hasn't popped up just now. Meaning I get to do a back to back about that and the vapid fantasy food porn restaurant thing. What fun.

Impressions:

Well, it's a little more light hearted than I expected, and I might not hate the female protagonist as much as I expected, but I certainly hate the male protagonist just as much as I thought I would, and perhaps even more. He constantly looks like a deer in headlights, with the nonstop train of internal narration to match. The girl's only saving grace is her willingness to immediately mount him and shove her tongue down his throat while he continues to stare in stunned silence. It's clear who wears the pants in this relationship. They're both horrible people in that traditional Japanese teen romantic drama sense. They each did one nice thing for each other one time, ten years ago, and have obsessed over it for the next decade, despite apparently not having a single interaction for the next ten years; just staring at each other from four to five feet away. That's the backstory for a stalker at best, and trying to sell it as star crossed lovers is on its face ridiculous.

And really, I'm not going to watch any flavor of drama where there is absolutely nothing going on but the writers are creating psychopathic twatcakes that we're supposed to empathize with. Yeah, hormones, I get it. We were all human childlings at some point. That doesn't excuse how goddamned slow this goes. It could've done the dumb infodump at the start, jumped straight to the last five minutes, and then rolled the OP from there. At least 15 minutes of this episode contributed nothing besides fostering hatred for the sack of worthless garbage nonstop-internal-narration-while-staring-dead-eyed protagonist.

I admit I have grown really really intolerant of these shows, it seems that the person that kinda liked Kimikiss back then was really not me, because I really do not see myself stomaching this show for more than 1 minute. Kimikiss was way better than this thing is for sure.

Truck-san please come here this atrocious male lead is waiting for you.
