Akashic Records #06 — The Wide World of Idiots
May 9th, 2017
Show, you are nowhere even close to as clever as you think that you are.
Impressions:
Was this episode written by chihuahuas? I don't even know what to call the nonsense that was basically everything that happened this week. Deliberate obfuscation solely so it could play at 'surprises' almost fits, except about 95% of what it obfuscated, it either did so just to explain how everyone was clever for figuring it out, was painfully obvious the moment it kicked off, or both. I think my favorite (as in the worst) was how Glenn explained that he figured out that the secret message that he and SPECIFICALLY HIM FOR SOME REASON had to get close to the queen, which combined with a bunch more hand waving, meant that he was supposed to use his unique AoE null-magic ability. You know what might've worked better there? If the instructions had been "Use your null-magic ability on the queen." Similarly, why was Glenn disguised at all? It was already obviously him from the get-go, but why did they even do it at all? Instead of the teacher and student that were SUPPOSED to be there, here's two random people complete unassociated with the class, who want to get close to the queen. It's a wonder the queen hasn't been assassinated already if security is just like "Yeah, that doesn't seem suspicious at all."
I don't even know why those two newbies were introduced. They ended up just being warm bodies to impersonate in a situation where nobody needed to impersonate anybody at all, or at worst, impersonating literally anybody else would've made more sense. And it's not even like they lost any guards with the distraction stunt considering both the swarm around them and the barrier put up to keep them out. I guess at least you can say that events transpired, which shows like Re:Creators are still struggling to achieve. Its last episode featured an info dump, followed by the government whisking them away so they could be further briefed, but in a different room. For fifteen minutes. This was still abject nonsense in every way and every attempt to explain the logic behind it only served to point out how nothing anybody was doing followed any human logic at all.

“It was already obviously him from the get-go”
I’m guessing that to a good 80% of the target audience, it… wasn’t.
