Clockwork Planet #02 — Bring Your Dutch Wife To School Day

April 13th, 2017

The magical girlfriend joke that NEVER gets old.

Impressions:

Once again, we have the tale of two stories here; one about a little girl and her pet cyborg mafioso raiding the industrial complex MAN, and two teenagers… going to school? Going on a date? Trying on clothes? Granted, the share of screentime was about 75-25, and NOT in favor of the thing you'd think it would be focusing on, which is to say NOT on dress up and attending school with your new dutch wife. It's still impossible to get invested in anything really though since it's all being driven by babble without any real sense of consequence or personal impact on the very little that is going on.

And regardless, the raid itself was done by only just over halfway into the episode, and the action was never any better than "barely animated with long pauses to talk to automatons." Sure, compared to the hilarity of going to school and having your magical girlfriend introduce herself as your possession, it's a step up, but the only competition it's winning is against itself. Well, and I suppose against most of the rest of this miserable season. Perhaps that's its genius though. It's at least providing some contrast within itself; a high, a low, an up, a down. Something besides just a dull constant buzz, even if its high points are still firmly C- at best.

  • LUNI_TUNZ says:

Hopefully with “princess” meeting up with her rpbot, we’ll get more action and less Barbie’s Dress-up.

  • The Phantom says:

There is some inconsistency in the female gear robo, was not she supposed to be more snarky and less blushy? My memory is foggy from 1st episode but she seemed different.
