God’s Blessings #14 — Deadbeat Dungeon

January 25th, 2017

Molepeople did it is becoming my new theory of all Japanese media.

Impressions:

This may very well be it for me with this show. I had to struggle to get up the motivation to finish sorting the caps after this excrutiatingly awful episode. It made me seriously rethink my hypothesis that molepeople aren't creating this. Like Akiba, it got sucked into the exposition zone for much of it without any regard for humor or moving things along, and worse, that was the climax to their little adventure. A goddamned info dump. And that's when it wasn't just being abjectly horrible. One of the infodump sections had them walking along a wall full of skulls, their hands on the wall. So you'd think a joke would be one of them freaking out when they touched a skull, right? No. Passed right over as if the skulls don't exist. Then one of them steps on a skull a few minutes later. THAT'S when they pull that joke. And then there's the stinger gag to the entire adventure where Aqua was 'hyper-competent,' but it was actually her nature as a divine being that caused all the 'trouble' they ran into in the first place. Except that the 'trouble' and the 'hyper-competent' bits were combined into one approximately 15 second montage. And even that was more exposition than joke.

And no, that didn't fill up the entirety of the episode. The remaining five or so minutes were just straight up recycling of jokes from past episodes at the start and end, as it is wont to do, but this time, they couldn't be bothered to even try to think of any way to connect it to the rest of the episode. It's like the director and the goddamned artists aren't even on the same page, while the writers are turning in unfinished rough drafts. Did someone try to put together storyboards and scripts from shredder detritus?

Next Episode:

Twenty minutes of one-note 'payoff' for the ongoing Darkness 'torture' bits.

    Huh… Kamidori reference?

This show was always mediocre, so it’s second season being a bowl of raw tripe wasn’t going to be a surprise. With little to no plot (or humor), watching the “hilarious hijinks” of a bunch of garbage gnomes got boring midway through the first season. So, nothing lost in the end.

This episode makes me realize that I would have maybe preferred a competent Aqua than the whiny ass crybaby we got.

And I guess every episode is going to have like half a line where someone says “Where’s Darkness?” and someone else says “fuck her.” She was my least favorite character on this show, so I’m happy she fucked off.

  • Neclord X says:

Idk, I’m having lot of fun with this. Not that is incredibly hilarious or surprising, we all probably seen enough mimic jokes to fill an entire dungeon but…come on, is not that bad, Lich guy was a total bro and see them crawl the dungeon was fun.

The only anime I’m enjoying this season. Just needs Megumin without a towel.
