Trickster #02 — MORE SHOTS OF THE WATER BOTTLE
October 10th, 2016
SUBTLETY!
I briefly flipped through Ping Pong Girl and Stella, but both were even more half-assed than the first episodes, especially the latter, which seems to have all but given up on the game making thing to just do girls hanging out.
Impressions:
This isn't winning me over either. Despite setting up the not-much-of-amystery that you'd think the episode would've centered on, it was distracted from that by around six minutes in to go hang out with Angsto angsting it up. Worse, when they made overtures about getting back on the case, they paused everything to just pull a bunch of random crap out of their asses by simply standing around and essentially going "Here's a bunch of new relevant factoids out of goddamned nowhere." Except the thing was 'broken' by Angsto randomly spitting up poisoned water, but the guy was confused, therefore he was FRAMED. None of the earlier stuff had anything to do with it. And this is after he inexplicably took a bottle of poisoned water and poured it into soup. The tortured logic to get there pains me. It wasn't them cracking the case. It was like Terror In Resonance or Adam West Batman vs Riddler leaps in logic, all based upon people doing things that make no Earthly sense. And it was all to pin it on a guy who'd put into food the target would have never touched while the actual poison was handed to him in a crowd of people by the woman who poisoned it herself. And it was all according to her plan until the Hardy Boys showed up to stop her. The mind recoils in fear.
I don't really know what this episode was supposed to have to intrigue or excite. The 'mystery' was garbage. The twist made no sense whatsoever. The plot made no sense whatsoever. There was no exciting chase. The characters are annoying at their best of times. And it didn't set up anything really for the future except some godawful power of friendship nonsense. There was that one scene where Hyper Boy tackled the girl, and then proceeded to crawl on top of her and threaten her with violence, framed to be as rapey as possible. Maybe that counts for something, although I doubt it's anything positive.

Did you skip Classicaloid for some reason? Or I missed the post.
The first episode was so weird that was worth. Like “I don’t think smoke whatever I had to smoke to watch this” kind of worth. XD
