Trickster #01 — Box of Dog

October 3rd, 2016

Who gibs a papillon just to make a point?

Impressions:

This isn't going to win any awards for writing, that's for damn sure. What a mess. There's Invulnerable Death-Boy With a Death Wish who wants to be isolated from everyone and everything yet hangs out in the middle of a metropolis, and at the same time, there's sort of this thing going on with hacking some robot, but not really and it was actually a bombing or something, which comes together at the end when Death-Boy finds frieeeeendship? And then is suddenly not invincible? It's all more like a mass of unrelated scenes, one of which is murdering a papillon, which Joy of Life Boy apparently then intended to deliver in a box to its owner if I'm reading that scene correctly.

I can't say I was particularly engaged though. The visuals are sufficient at best, Death-Boy makes me roll my eyes, and the utter lack of cohesion or flow to events just leaves me with some vague idea of who the cast is going to be… and a large part of that is the screaming girl-who-communicates-through-a-robot-owl. What a wonderful thing to pair with the screaming emo kid.

I wanted to give it a chance since it had at least one female character in this sausage fest but her shrieking got on my nerves so fast that I didn’t even manage to finish the episode.
