Hip Whip Girls!!!!!!!! #01 — The Cleavage Pinch Trap

October 6th, 2016

That's eight exclamation points.

Impressions:

Where does one even begin with a show like this? The premise is just so bloody awful, but at the same time, Xebec really spends absolutely no time trying to defend it or explain it, skips all the wangsting around, and by the halfway point, they've introduced the sadistic rival character who's KOing jobbers with phantom ass-shots to the chin while grinning like a murderer. Meanwhile, the deuteragonist is performing a complex dance that makes her ass appear like her breasts to psyche out her opponent. Which isn't to say that the animation was particularly good. It leans on 'impact' stills as badly as most other sports shows, but at the same time, it doesn't constantly cut to the peanut gallery or internal narration to comment on things, so it doesn't feel painfully dragged out.

I guess my main thought in the end is more or less "Would that these characters were in a show where the content wasn't so… this." It does provide further support for my old theory about how there's a tipping point where a show's gimmick becomes ridiculous enough that everyone gives up on trying to normalize it and just goes at it full bore and that always turns out better, because lord knows this isn't the first of its ilk. The characters are all enthusiastic about being there, and the whole expositionless introductory fight bit elevated pretty much all the named characters involved. Still, give them a random assortment of weaponry and while still lacking on the actual action front as far as production goes, and it could probably be a relatively decent if generic not-a-LN-but-basically-a-LN show. As it is, I feel confused and dirty. And pretty sure that physics do not at all work in any way that they're trying to sell them as doing.

9 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

Honestly speaking this is the funiest fanservice show I remember in years. For me this was just awesome.

Its the type of show where you are pretty aware of how dumb the premise is till you see stuff like chicks getting leg swept by a another chick swinging her hip and another girl launching herself ass-first into two other chicks to knock them out of bounds and you start to understand how the producers just might also be aware of how dumb the premise is and are just trying to give the audience something to watch with a lot of flash.

The action is weird but there’s enough of it to keep you from paying too much attention to what you just watched so you (might) just find yourself actually immersing yourself in whats going on and end up getting enjoyment out of it.

Its a decent enough introductory episode. It shows off the premise, introduces the main characters who are ready to get things going, and spends a good amount of the episode showing how the action is going work under the premise to give you a good idea of what you are in for if you continue watch the show. So far its a show where you might understand them this time around when they use that non-descriptive term “fun” when they talk about it.

Needs a cameo from R.Mika and peach.
I’m hearing they skipped 22 chapters.

Let me know if anybody tries a low yo yo (everybody already forgot they watched that show, right)

  • Opulent Rag says:

Shit, get a thick black woman in there and this shit is done.

  • The Phantom says:

I think that not trying to explain stuff really helped this show a lot, imagine it stopping every five minutes to explain how the phantom ass cannon is done or the tit-ass bunshin, (LOL) that would be awful indeed.

I imagine that even Xebec realizes the core of this is godawful, even the director probably sees this with a “Do I really have to do this shit?”, but anyway I imagine this will probably sell a lot.

I believe we all have had/will have to do something we don’t like for money at one point or another.

  • Fuwaa says:

Don’t worry, the exposition will hit hard next episode I’m sure.

  • Sanjuro says:

    I can get behind this.

  • Longhaul says:

This was a lot more entertaining than it had any right to be.
