Drifters #01 — THAT HAPPENED IN THE PAST
October 7th, 2016
Boy, it sure is dramatic/hilarious when characters yell, depending on the background.
Impressions:
Boy, they sure gave up animating this around seven minutes in, didn't they? And then there was about a 30 second long straight-screaming session with blaring sounds and bright lights that I assume was supposed to be funny, but who can even tell? The whole thing seemed like it got sick of being gorey and yelly at around a third in and decided that it just wanted to scream historical facts for as much of the rest of the episode as it could. And scream it did. Over and over and over and over. My ears hurt.
It's not even like things were particularly well done when it was animated and trying to be gory. There were certainly moments here and there when characters stopped yelling, the camera stopped showing feet trampling on the ground or horse asses rushing past, or CGI soldiers tromping around, but those were clearly done reluctantly as a hook for the first two minutes before the focus could shift to its true heart's desire, "men yelling." So where's the show going to end up? The gory start, the overdramatic yelly middle, or the 'comic' yelly second half? None of those three particularly excites me.

What annoyed me the most was the same BRRRRRMMMMM sound they put in whenever it cut to someones reaction, someone moving their hand, looking at a clipboard, holding up a sign, firing an arrow 1m into a wall, looking at somebody or saying something.
