Brave Witches #01 — Still No Pants

October 5th, 2016

But they're doing their best!

Impressions:

As this began with its obligatory yet unneeded infodump about the history of the world, I was thinking about how I simply no longer trust Japan with 'generic undefined monsters' as an antagonist factor anymore. Period. Full stop. It turns out such a worry was unneeded because this didn't quite rise to that level. No, siree Bob. The antagonist this episode was inclement weather, and boy, doesn't that just say everything about this franchise. Listen to how triumphant that music is when they decide to buckle down and do their absolute absolute bestest, even though… it's raining! But not to worry, the only thing that can get in their way is trying too hard while having too much comraderie, but they'll pull through thanks to their friendship! And bathing together isn't hurting either. Yeah, that scene with the flashing of the boobs was all about the scar. I'm sure of it.

So no, it does not elevate itself above its predecessor and progenitor, Strike Witches, in any way, shape or form. It's more of the same schlock, just with slightly different character designs. Still even using those ugly-ass CGI models for flying around too, although since they're not even having them move, it's more like speedily hovering. And still none of the girls are wearing pants for absolutely no reason whatsoever. At least they're consistent.

    Did you ever, though?

Decent animation, but this was completely by-the-numbers story telling. Hope it turns around when they get off the base and into action.
