Taboo Tattoo #04 — Stealth Helicopter

So… they were just buzzing random buildings while everyone ignored them, huh?

Impressions:

There's something I really like about the way this show off-handedly murdered a veritable platoon of government agents this week, both at the start and with Izzy bringing them to the fight later, even above and beyond it showing characters interacting with and having relationships with people beyond the protagonist instead of just orbiting around his almighty dick. It keeps from any dumb bit of characters going off half-cocked on their own like idiots, as well as provides a horde of jobbers without undermining any of the main characters. They mostly did a good job of staying serious this week too. There were a few moments of awkward humor, especially right in the middle, but they seem to be lessening as things go on and get a little more serious and bloody.

They're continuing to do a surpringly solid job with the muggle girlfriend too, usually an anchor in these kinds of shows, even if she is being a little exceedingly submissive to Seigi because he's just the absolute bestest. Hopefully she can continue to grow and start coming into her own instead of just being a cheerleader. Seigi… eh. He continues to remain more or less functional if uninspired. He lashes out emotionally but realizes he's the one who screwed up and that he needs to improve, is shocked by visceral carnage but immediately tries to do something about it, and chooses to fight instead of wallow and/or giving long speeches about what a selfless hero he is. The contrast to certain other shows is staggering. The first half was really where this episode shined. Fast paced fight with a little too much dumb exposition and absolutely missing the budget that it needed to be really fantastic, but compared to most Japanese media, was quick paced and let everyone involve look cool instead of having a designated jobber. Besides all the chopped up guys, I mean. Thems dead.

2 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

This is shaping up to be a legitimately good show, and only featured two references to Touko’s tits.

I was starting to think Japan didn’t have it in them anymore.

The loli does everything on the field for the enemy team short of cooking. Some things in animu never change? IDK.
