Pretty sure the catseals are the real undefeatable antagonists.

I'm undecided whether I'll cover either of the other two shows that eked into my top three for the day (even if just for today), but if I do make a post about Re:Zero, it'll be a little delayed because I've got some Aroduc errands to run.

Impressions:

Another episode of training/tests… and being tormented by a fat catseal. That's 'hilarious' or whatever. It didn't help that Hayate continues to be frivolous and not take it seriously, but we're apparently supposed to empathize with his "I just want to fly around" nonsense as he nearly gets himself killed. They still could've made someone learn a valuable lesson though, but there's no real narrative to the episode. X struggles, Y struggles, then someone goes "Friendship power!" and everything resolves itself. Freyja was sucking, but then friendship power, so she stopped sucking, which made Hayate stop sucking too, and gave him special powers replacing whatever his flight helmet was supposed to be doing. I think the worst attempt to tie things together may have been him supposedly learning a lesson in how to fly from chasing the fat catseal in the water. It was bad enough that scene existed at all. Let's not half-assedly try to pretend it was also a learning moment.

What I found far more interesting is that the trio of sidegirls seems to be having some kind of competition for who can wear the stupidest thing. One just has glasses and tits. She's phoning it in, or maybe has a starfish stuffed down her panties that we blissfully don't get to see. One has a catseal permanently stuffed into her jacket. The third has an octopus living on her head. I'm just going to assume that it's a brain parasite controlling her. That would explain a lot, both about her and about this society.
